He
has been a member of the North Somerset Governor Forum Executive
for 4 years and is also Vice-Chair of the Governor Development
and Support Group. Associated with this latter role he has
helped develop the “Training Package” for Governors
and acted as a facilitator/presenter on Induction Courses
and workshops on Performance Management and the Governor’s
role in Monitoring.
He is a member of
the North Somerset Joint Officer/Governor working party established
to develop the Governor’s role in Self-Evaluation and
School Improvement. Related to this work, he has conducted
and facilitated reviews with Governors and senior staff at
three schools using Forms S3 & S4. The findings were used
to inform the SIP and to establish a Governor Development
Action Plan. This approach was praised by HMI at a school
in Special Measures and also identified as “best practice”
to be shared by North Somerset school advisers.
For 1 years Roy
was appointed by the LEA to act as mentor to the Governing
Body of a school in Special Measures and also advised on the
re-structuring of roles and responsibilities of Governors
at two other schools. The advisory roles have been followed
by a period of working closely with Governors during implementation
of various aspects of revised structures and procedures. The
key objective in each case was to support and develop the
Governing Body and individuals to ensure that they could continue
to sustain and enhance improvements.
Recent experience
has also included working with LEA consultants at a school
where delegation had been removed from the Governing Body
and serving as a member of the LEA Post-Ofsted working party
developing a “Vision & Strategy for Learning”
in North Somerset.
He is a qualified
manufacturing engineer with extensive formal training, qualification
and practical experience in general management and financial
matters. After significant experience in factory management
he spent some 20 years as a management consultant with a major
international firm of accountants and consultants, 14 of these
years as a partner.
Of particular relevance,
in his professional career Roy Evans specialised in Change
Management. He worked on and directed assignments in both
Central and Local Government, including projects in educational
establishments focused on organisation, management and efficiency.
In recent years
he has worked as an independent consultant and non-executive
director acting as a “company doctor” to identify
and resolve problems in a range of industrial and commercial
concerns. In all assignments he has focussed on working with
and coaching the established senior management teams to ensure
that solutions proposed are within their capability and potential.
He has delivered related training both on an individual basis
and in seminar and workshop format.
